Purple Pillar® Rose of Sharon (Hibiscus syriacus ‘Purple Pillar’) is a distinctive deciduous flowering shrub known for its naturally narrow, upright, columnar growth habit. Unlike traditional Rose of Sharon varieties that develop broad, spreading forms, Purple Pillar® maintains a slender vertical silhouette, making it especially suitable for smaller gardens, narrow planting spaces, and landscapes where horizontal growing room is limited. This Proven Winners® selection combines elegant structure with colorful summer flowers.
From midsummer into early fall, Purple Pillar® Rose of Sharon produces attractive purple-pink flowers with darker reddish-purple centers. The blossoms stand out against its green foliage, creating seasonal color along its upright branches. Its naturally columnar form makes it useful for narrow flowering hedges, privacy accents, foundation plantings, entryway borders, and ornamental specimen plantings. This hardy shrub performs best in full sun to partial shade and prefers well-drained soil.
Each order includes 1 live Purple Pillar® Rose of Sharon shrub supplied in a 3-gallon nursery container. The plant is approximately 18 inches tall at the time of shipping. As a deciduous shrub, it naturally loses its leaves during fall and enters winter dormancy. Depending on the season, plants may arrive leafless, recently pruned, or without flowers.
