Leadwort (Ceratostigma plumbaginoides), also known as Hardy Plumbago, is a low-growing perennial groundcover admired for its vivid blue flowers and colorful seasonal foliage. Clusters of small, five-petaled, gentian-blue blossoms appear from late summer into fall, creating an attractive contrast against the plant's fresh green leaves. As temperatures cool, the foliage often develops striking shades of red, burgundy, and bronze.
This ornamental perennial develops a spreading, mat-forming growth habit through underground stems, making it suitable for garden borders, slopes, rock gardens, woodland edges, and groundcover plantings. Its combination of late-season blue flowers and warm autumn foliage provides seasonal interest when many other flowering perennials are finishing their bloom cycle.
Leadwort grows in full sun to partial shade and prefers well-drained soil. It adapts to a variety of garden conditions and offers some drought tolerance once established. As an herbaceous perennial, Leadwort naturally enters dormancy during winter and may emerge later in spring than many other garden plants.
Each order includes 1 live Leadwort plant supplied in a 1-gallon nursery container (G1).
