Ginger Wine® Ninebark (Physocarpus opulifolius ‘SMNPOBLR’) is a colorful deciduous ornamental shrub prized for its striking seasonal foliage, attractive flowers, and naturally rounded growth habit. This selection of eastern ninebark displays rich orange-red leaves in spring, deep burgundy foliage during summer, and warm reddish tones in autumn. Its distinctive coloring makes it an attractive choice for foundation plantings, mixed shrub borders, specimen gardens, and ornamental landscapes.
As new growth emerges in spring, Ginger Wine® Ninebark develops vibrant orange-red foliage that gradually transitions into sparkling burgundy during summer. Clusters of delicate pinkish-white flowers appear in late spring to early summer, creating an appealing contrast against the darker leaves. During fall, the foliage develops additional orange-red and burgundy tones, providing extended seasonal interest.
Ginger Wine® Ninebark performs best in full sun to partial shade and prefers well-drained soil with moderate moisture. Once established, it can tolerate occasional dry conditions and adapts to a range of garden soils. Its bushy, branching growth habit makes it useful as a specimen shrub, informal hedge, or colorful addition to mixed ornamental plantings. During winter, the shrub naturally loses its leaves, revealing its branching structure and characteristic exfoliating bark.
