Chastetree, also known as Monk’s Pepper (Vitex agnus-castus), is a deciduous flowering shrub or small ornamental tree admired for its aromatic foliage and showy lavender-blue flower spikes. Its attractive gray-green leaves are divided into narrow leaflets, creating a soft, airy texture that complements a variety of ornamental landscapes.
During summer, clusters of small lavender-blue to violet flowers appear at the ends of branches, providing seasonal color and attracting bees, butterflies, and other pollinators. Following flowering, small rounded fruits may develop and gradually darken as they mature. Its naturally upright, spreading, multi-stemmed growth habit makes Chastetree suitable for pollinator gardens, mixed shrub borders, Mediterranean-inspired landscapes, and specimen plantings.
Supplied as one live Chastetree in a 3 gallon nursery pot, this specimen measures approximately 18 inches tall at the time of shipping. It generally performs best in full sun and well-drained soil. Established plants are relatively tolerant of dry conditions, while seasonal leaf drop is a normal part of this deciduous plant's growth cycle.
