Blue Rug Juniper (Juniperus horizontalis ‘Wiltonii’) is a low-growing evergreen conifer prized for its striking silver-blue foliage, dense groundcover habit, and trailing branches. Its finely textured foliage forms a carpet-like appearance that provides year-round ornamental interest. During colder weather, the foliage may develop subtle purple or bronze tones before returning to its characteristic silver-blue coloration.
This spreading juniper grows relatively quickly under suitable conditions, with branches extending horizontally across the soil surface and cascading naturally over landscape edges. Its dense, mat-forming habit makes it particularly suitable for slopes, retaining walls, rock gardens, landscape borders, and large groundcover plantings. Blue Rug Juniper is also useful for adding cool-toned foliage contrast to mixed evergreen landscapes.
Blue Rug Juniper generally performs best in full sun and well-drained soil. It tolerates sandy, rocky, and relatively dry conditions once established, making it suitable for sunny landscapes where a low-growing evergreen is desired. Consistently saturated soil should be avoided because good drainage is important for healthy root development.
Each order includes 1 live Blue Rug Juniper supplied in a 3-gallon nursery container (G3).
