Blackhawks Big Bluestem Grass – 1 Live Ornamental Grass, 1-Gallon Size – Andropogon gerardii ‘Blackhawks’

Blackhawks Big Bluestem Grass (Andropogon gerardii ‘Blackhawks’) is a warm-season ornamental grass known for its dramatic upright growth habit and richly colored foliage. Emerging growth is typically green to purple-tinged, with the leaves and stems developing increasingly deep purple, burgundy, and nearly black tones as the growing season progresses.

This distinctive grass forms an upright, clump-forming structure that adds vertical texture and seasonal color to perennial borders, prairie-inspired landscapes, and ornamental garden beds. During late summer and autumn, branching flower clusters appear above the foliage. The flowers and seed heads contribute additional texture and interest as the seasons change.

Blackhawks Big Bluestem performs best in full sun and well-drained soil. Once established, it tolerates periods of dryness and adapts to a variety of soil conditions. As a warm-season perennial grass, it typically remains dormant during winter and begins active growth when temperatures warm in spring.
